The National Securities and Stock Market Commission participated in consultations with the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
The Ukrainian side was represented by Commission Chairman Oleksii Semeniuk and Commissioner Maksym Libanov. During the meetings, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between the NSSMC and ESMA, particularly with regard to aligning Ukrainian regulation with European standards.
Key topics of the talks included: the EU regulatory framework governing the activities of credit rating agencies (CRAs), the possibility of the NSSMC obtaining observer status with ESMA, and the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the sides.
The sides paid particular attention to Ukraine’s integration into ESMA. Specifically, they discussed Ukraine’s involvement in certain areas of the Authority’s work. There will be no need to wait for the entire legislative harmonization process to be completed; everything will happen gradually—as requirements are met.
The Commission emphasized that these steps are important for the further integration of Ukrainian capital markets into the European financial area.
